Lighting plays an important role in creating an engaging worship environment, but older fixtures can make it difficult to achieve the brightness, coverage, and flexibility a modern church needs. Gateway Church faced that challenge with a lighting system built around aging LED PAR fixtures that were no longer delivering the output or versatility their space required.
Griffin Technical Designs partnered with Gateway Church to overhaul the system, replacing the older PAR fixtures with brighter moving wash lights designed to give their production team more creative control.
Moving Beyond the Limitations of PAR Fixtures
Gateway’s existing PAR fixtures provided basic stage lighting, but their fixed positions and limited output restricted what the team could accomplish. Adjusting the lighting for different services, events, or stage layouts often required physically repositioning fixtures, and the available brightness made it difficult to produce an even, polished look throughout the platform.
The goal of the upgrade wasn’t simply to add more fixtures. It was to make the lighting system more useful, adaptable, and effective for the church’s weekly needs.
Brighter Fixtures with Greater Flexibility
The new moving wash fixtures provide a noticeable increase in brightness while giving Gateway’s production team the ability to reposition and adjust the lighting directly from the console.
Unlike traditional PAR fixtures, moving washes can be aimed and refocused without requiring someone to climb a ladder and manually adjust each light. This makes it much easier to accommodate changes in stage layouts, special events, worship nights, seasonal productions, and other services.
The fixtures also provide broader, more consistent coverage across the platform. That improved coverage helps create a cleaner look in the room and gives the church a stronger lighting foundation for its video production.
Designed for Weekly Use
A successful church lighting upgrade needs to work for more than a single event. It should be dependable, easy for volunteers and staff to operate, and flexible enough to support the church as its needs change.
Gateway’s new moving wash system gives the production team more control without making the system unnecessarily complicated. Positions and looks can be programmed in advance, recalled when needed, and adjusted from the console as the platform configuration changes.
The result is a lighting system that can support a normal Sunday service just as effectively as a larger production or special event.
A Noticeable Upgrade to the Worship Space
Replacing the old PAR fixtures with brighter moving washes improved more than the overall light level. It gave Gateway Church:
- Brighter and more consistent stage coverage
- Greater flexibility for changing platform layouts
- Remote positioning and adjustment from the lighting console
- Improved lighting for in-room worship and video production
- A more modern foundation for future lighting designs
The upgraded system allows the church’s team to create intentional lighting looks while spending less time making physical adjustments to fixtures.
